PROVIDERS OF ESTATE PLANS FOR THE CONTINUED
CARE OF YOUR ANIMALS

Who would care for your horse without you? How would your horse's needs be paid for? How can you be certain the money you provide is put only to its intended use?

A Horse Trust ensures that your instructions for the daily care of your horse are enforced, and that the funds are always there to do so. A Horse Trust allows you to leave your horse with family or friends without burdening them with the cost of its care.

As attorneys at Horse Trusts, we understand both your desire to provide for your animals and the legal issues involved in preparing a plan to do so.

We specialize in the drafting of detailed and personal legal instructions for the creation of trusts used for the care of your animals, should you not be there to care for them yourself, and for ensuring that your donation of remaining funds goes to your chosen nonprofit organization.

Horses are expensive to keep and live long lives. Unless you are a person of considerable means, we suggest contacting your insurance agent and purchasing a fixed term life insurance policy on yourself to fund the trust. A typical $200,000 twenty-year policy on a healthy 40 year old woman costs only about $200 a year. Trust plans can repeatedly be amended by you to add or remove horses. Any funds remaining after your horse passes away can be donated to your chosen animal related charity.

Trusts for the care of individual animals are currently allowed by law in 39 states including: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
